Webinar Session Description:

Beginning this year, 2020, ASHA standards require that all supervisors of SLP practicum students, interns, and Clinical Fellows have at least two continuing education hours related to the supervisory process. The purpose of this presentation is to ensure that Florida SLPs have met this requirement.

Learner Outcomes:

1. Describe three characteristics of a supportive climate.

2. Describe three characteristics of a defensive climate.

3. Implement five tips for supervising interns.

4. Discuss the importance of "soft skills" in the supervisory process.

Speaker: Jean Mead, Ed.D., CCC-SLP is the Coordinator of Clinical Education in the CSD Department at Florida International University in Miami. She administers all aspects of the clinical process for interns at FIU. Her research interests include the supervisory process and the effects of mindfulness training on student interns.
