What’s Rigor Got to Do with It? School-Based SLPs Supporting Language Therapy

This seminar will focus on the speech language pathologist’s role in supporting rigorous classroom instruction and the state standards for students with communication disorders.  Participants will learn why rigor is so critical to the development of language and literacy skills, and ways to implement laser focused therapy strategies on the linguistic underpinnings of literacy. Universal Designs for Learning, Service Delivery Models, as well as engaging ways to collaborate with classroom teachers will be shared.

Participants will be able to:

1)    identify what rigor is and how it relates to the field of speech-language pathology

2)   identify strategies that will engage collaborative efforts between SLPs and school staff to support UDL for students with communication disorders

3)    develop therapy activities aligned to state standards to support rigorous instruction
